Who would have thought that a baby born in New Orleans' Charity Hospital would grow up to become the "Emperor of the Universe"? Ernie K-Doe created a string of hits, the greatest of which, "Mother-In-Law", catapulted him to worldwide superstardom.
"Mr. Manaugahyde", as he liked to call himself, could light up a stage and set fire to the dance floor with "A Certain Girl", "Te-Ta-Te-Ta-Ta", or any song he sang. The crowd would holler, "Burn! K-Doe Burn!", and he'd happily oblige.
His legend lives on through his music, at his "Mother-In-Law Lounge" (1500 N. Claiborne Ave), and now in his outrageous hot sauce. Put this on your next plate of red beans and find out what it means to
"Burn! K-Doe Burn!"
